“Every day we have plenty of opportunities to get angry, stressed or offended. But what you’re doing when you indulge these negative emotions is giving something outside yourself power over your happiness. You can choose to not let little things upset you.” ~ Joel Osteen
Remember, To Love and Be Loved you Must Love…
When we lose someone we love we are robbed of their attention, presence, and most of all, our need for their love.
We become angry and lose the capacity to control our emotions.
This is our natural state of grief.
Angry in denial… angry and depressed… angry at people who seem to be flaunting their happiness at your expense.
Anger is the emotion that causes us to spiral further and further into the valley of grief and despair.
Much of the time I spent in anger—with God, the medical system, my pitiful life, everything—was nothing more than wasted energy and ultimately, wasted life.
It is so easy to fall into the anger trap but, like a mouse, if you don’t chase the cheese you won’t get caught!
It is impossible to love when your heart is filled with anger.
Our emotions create a blockage that short circuits our belief that anger is robbing us of love.
The most basic aspect of being human is to love and be loved.
This is instantly cut off when we live our lives in anger, spite, or even the deep-rooted fear that we will never love again.
The above may not make sense to you right away. It may seem contrived, or worse, not right. But it is.
Try to pet your dog or cat when you are angry. Anger immediately disperses and a calmness sets in.
I found that when anger started to show up, I recognized it, and immediately took action to change my State of Grace.
Anger is the response to some trigger — something happening to you. Or at least your interpretation of what’s happening.
Catch the trigger and you flip the switch from on to off.
I started to rely on 5 simple affirmations that took my focus off the trigger, and quickly reduced or completely eliminated the negative feelings.
I am Grateful…
I am Resilient…
I am Authentic…
I am Creative…
I am Empathetic…
It never seemed to matter to me how I finished the affirmation. I am Grateful for 30 magical years with the woman I loved…
The simple condition-response was enough to move from a growing negative, to neutral, then to a higher State of Grace.
Literally.
This is an easy-to-master skill that reminds us that God still loves us, and with His Grace, we will be strong in the fight.
Try it.
If you want to love and be loved again, you can’t do it with an angry heart.
God Bless,
Eric Richard Haas
