“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” ~ Helen Keller
Adventure…
When we reflect back on the life we had, versus the life ahead, we have to use two completely different tools, seamlessly and interchangeably: A microscope and a telescope.
We need the microscope to delve deep into our past to see the tiny reflections of times gone by. To examine our memories, thoughts, pictures, and all the other stuff that made us who we are today.
We also need a telescope to look way out into the future to see what might be just beyond the horizon. We revert back to the age-old, “who, what, when, where” questions our 8th-grade teachers told us to get acquainted with.
But the biggest question, the one that changes everything is just one word: WHY?
I have no idea what my next love will look like, be like, or even think like.
She will be, as am I, unique in the world.
But I do know that she will have a simple answer to the big WHY question we all face. And her answer, as is mine, comes down to a huge value… a word that encompasses everything I expect to be, do and have in life.
Adventure!
In fact, adventure is my #6 personal value after Freedom… Beauty… Curiosity… Loyalty… Giving… ADVENTURE…
“Men want a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue. That is what is written in their hearts. That is what little boys play at. That is what men’s movies are about. You just see it. It is undeniable.” ~ John Eldredge
I love this quote. It is why I am writing a new music-driven murder series called LYRICS™: The Soul of Music. Click here to see progress…
I am doing it for pure FUN!
And ADVENTURE.
Lately, I have been reviewing a lot of songs, indeed, looking for the story behind the song.
So, if the answer to the WHY question is ADVENTURE, then the answer to the WHO question is written in these lyrics (complete lyrics at the end of this blog)…
That I came to travel
Upon a road that was thorned and narrow
Another place
Another grace
Would save me
You are the words, I am the tune
Play me
What an adventure THAT will be:)
Eric Richard Haas
GRACE NOTE: Are you on a mission or just an intermission? Life is not an endurance test to see if we can make it to the end. It is to be an action ADVENTURE to be lived one day at a time. What adventure is missing in your life?
Full Lyrics (click to watch video)…
And I was nighttime
I one day woke up
To find her lying beside my bed
I softly said, “Come take me”
In need of someone
As though I’d done someone wrong somewhere
I don’t know where
Come lately
You are the words, I am the tune
Play me
Song she brang to me
Words that rang in me
Rhyme that sprang from me
Warmed the night
And what was right
Became me
You are the words, I am the tune
Play me
That I came to travel
Upon a road that was thorned and narrow
Another place
Another grace
Would save me
You are the words, I am the tune
Play me
